Amrita-Yoga

Upon moving into a new neighborhood, one of the first things I do is find a couple yoga places within walking distance and try them out. When I walked into Amrita Yoga & Wellness for the first time, I knew immediately that I’d found my home base.

An experience at Amrita begins with walking past the Frankford Hall Beer Garden. Some days, this can be very hard to do. Once you’ve overcome temptation and enter the lobby, you remove your shoes, check in at a gorgeous wooden reception desk and ascend a wooden staircase to one of the light-filled studios.

I am usually in the large studio that overlooks Frankford Avenue. I take Yin class on Sundays with Erin, and nothing makes the start of my week go smoother. My favorite spot is either next to one of the windows that has a hanging tea light, or underneath one of the beautiful chandeliers in the middle of the room.

Studio

It’s very easy to see the elements of earth, air, fire, and water in the studio. There is a waterfall at the front of the room, surrounded by two fireplaces. The dark wood incorporated throughout the studio gives me the earthy feeling that I get when I’m in the middle of the woods back home. All of the windows allow in natural light and once the stars come out, it reminds me of when I went camping in Montauk and spent hours just looking at the night sky.

If you live in the area, or even if you don’t, you owe it to yourself to visit Amrita and experience it for yourself.

Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.
