JOUSKA: a hypothetical and often lively conversation you play out in your head.

Lives continue with things left unsaid or perhaps going differently than thought. A practice such as jouska is to expel the inner monologue, to give words their cathartic release into the ether. Sometimes this informs our future conversations, sometimes it is merely an opportunity for conversation with one who cannot talk back. The practice of jouska is surrounded by a storm cloud of intense emotion, anxiety, yet a sense of release and fortification. It is both preparation and discard, dialogue within a monologue. “Jouska” is an invitation to the inner workings of these one-sided conversations, to experience the tension and slack that comes from the underrated activity of talking to oneself.
